Exciting Announcement!

453x680Exposure

If you are not aware, Exposure was the first story I had published, way back in the summer of 2011. I basically wrote it for MLR Press when I stumbled upon their website and hoped they would accept it for publication. Well, they did, and the rest is history.

These were some of the reviews on Goodreads:

Jeremy, a hot young working guy, takes a dare from his buddies to be photographed for the purpose of building a portfolio to be used to embark on a modeling career. Here is no simpering, vain young beauty; rather we grow to love this brilliantly courageous young man who has determined that he will live each moment of his life to the fullest.

~ Sammy Goode, 2012

Exposure is the debut offering of Elizabeth Lister. I’m not going to lie…this book surprised the hell out of me. I was expecting to find many of the mistakes that new writers make. I was surprised with the maturity that Ms. Lister brought to the party.

~ Portia, 2011
I don’t really have a reason why I thought this book might be average or predictable. It certainly wasn’t either, but rather surprised me with the genuine humor, extremely hot sex scenes and incredible depth.

~ Valentina Heart, 2011

This book is a sweet, HOT gem complete with humor, charm and and a surprise twist that gives beautiful depth to Marty and Jeremy’s relationship.
What begins as a routine photo session quickly develops into an intense attraction between, Marty, a thirty-something artist who’s love life has hit a bit of a slump and Jeremy, a young, beautiful university grad who’s friends have dared him to put together a modeling portfolio.

~ Boyboygirllove, 2011

And an excellent review at Top2Bottom Reviews.

A common refrain in several of the reviews was for a follow-up story about Jeremy and Martin. My readers wanted to see them a few years down the line.

But I had other things to do. Namely a hardcore BDSM series about three very adventurous men making creative use of a refurbished attic loft playroom, The James Lucas Trilogy.

But I’m done with James, Tate and Sebastian, at least for now. Although sad to leave them behind with the soon-to-be published The Loft – Book Three, the final instalment of The Loft Trilogy, it’s time to move on.

I want to try something different. A serial story on my website – a new chapter each month. And somehow, Jeremy and Martin are speaking to me again.

Starting with the release of the September edition of my newsletter Hot Off The Press! on Friday, September 15th, you can catch up with Martin and Jeremy in a new story called White Balance that will be available to read for free, one chapter per month, on my website.

I am hoping to make it novel length, which means I’ll be writing a chapter a month for about two years. A little on the slow side, but then again, it’s free and I will be working on other projects at the same time. Once it’s complete I will probably offer it to MLR Press for publication and wipe it from the site. So, if you want to read it soonish, or at least start to read it, please sign up for my monthly newsletter which will alert you to the release of each new chapter.

I will also be offering some free e-copies of Exposure as part of a contest in the September 15th issue of Hot Off The Press!

Also in Issue 2, an exclusive excerpt from The Loft – Book Three!

Book Review – “Triad Soul” by ‘Nathan Burgoine

o-triad-soul

There was not nearly enough sex in this book. That is my only complaint, and only because I love Luc, Curtis and Anders so much and because I know ‘Nathan Burgoine writes amazing sex scenes when he has a mind to (‘Nathan, we need to talk). And because I’m an admitted erotica slut.

However, I am utterly humbled by ‘Nathan’s plot skills and the way he manages to present us with a paranormal mystery and keep us guessing as his hot-as-hell supernatural sleuths try to figure everything out.

The relationship between Curtis (the wizard), Luc (the vampire), and Anders (the demon), continues to grow in their concern for each other and the way they annoy the hell out of each other at times. It is easy to see the development, and the one very graphic scene between Anders and Curtis does not disappoint (except that it is way too short. Sorry – erotica slut speaking again).

I am sincerely hoping that in the next book, ‘Nathan stops playing with my heart and, uh, other parts, and brings these three truly together in physical and emotional intimacy (I hear he can be bribed with fudge and there may still be time).

Seriously though, in terms of crafting a complex plot and creating a paranormal underworld in the capital city of Ottawa, Canada, Burgoine has an adept hand. There is violence and gore, magic and politics, new adversaries and allies, and plenty of sexual innuendo to keep things interesting (mostly thanks to Anders).

I love the way ‘Nathan represents multiple diversities in his books and his positive and realistic female characters. Again the comparison to the Harry Potter novels is appropriate. I don’t know how he keeps everything straight in that magical head of his but he does, and the result is wonderful.

There is much offhand humour in all of Burgoine’s books, and this one is no exception. Speaking of sexual innuendos:

They walked to the elevator in silence. After the doors closed and the elevator started to descend, Matthew leaned against the wall. “You know, he is hot. He’s got that whole deep voice thing, and there’s just something about a professor.”

“Anders says he has a thing for ropes and handcuffs,” Curtis said.

“Really?” Matthew sounded intrigued.

“I am never going to make it through his class ever again unless you both stop talking,” Mackenzie said.

I’m pretty sure he put that part in just for me. And also the brief scene between Anders and Professor Mann near the end of the book. Enough said (and thank you!).

I am eagerly awaiting the release of book three and searching for fudge recipes.

5/5 stars (4 stars due to the lack of triad sex which is my own personal problem, bumping up to 5 stars due to the genius level of plot and character)

Book Review – “Triad Blood” by ‘Nathan Burgoine.

o-triad-blood

When I attended the Romancing the Capital convention in Ottawa earlier this month I snagged a copy of my friend ‘Nathan Burgoine’s second novel, Triad Blood, along with its sequel, Triad Soul.

‘Nathan and I have been friends for a few years now. We met somewhat randomly at the grand opening of a renewed LGBT+ bookstore/gallery downtown just after my first novel, Beyond the Edge, was published.

We encountered each other again at the very first Romancing the Capital convention, thrust together as the only two authors of LGBT+ romance at the time. Then we discovered that we live quite near each other and now manage to get together frequently to discuss the ins and outs of the writing business and take part in joint writing sessions.

‘Nathan writes paranormal fiction. Occasionally it is romantic, as in his debut novel, Light. Triad Blood and Triad Soul are not really romance novels. They are more ensemble thrillers with an erotic underlay and perhaps the potential for an eventual romantic development.

I write contemporary erotic romance. Paranormal thrillers are not currently what I seek out; however, because ‘Nathan is a friend of mine and a very good writer, and I happen to know he writes very hot sex scenes when he gets down to it, I made an exception.

I’m so glad I did. Although I enjoyed his reluctant gay superhero novel Light, the short story that his Triad series is based on, called Three, was one of the hottest short stories I’ve ever read. The combination of a vampire, wizard and demon is ingenious and allows for lots of sensual blood sucking and sexual intimacy, since the demon’s powers are derived from sharing physical contact with other men.

Hmm, how convenient. I love the way ‘Nathan’s mind works.

Triad Blood reads like Harry Potter with full grown adult characters and really hot sex. Curtis, a young wizard, Luc, a centuries-old vampire, and Anders a soul-sucking (and other-things-sucking) demon, have formed a triad in friendship and in order to enhance their individual powers by combining their resources. Not sure at first if it will work at all, they discover their combined power outperforms that of the traditional coteries that surround them in Ottawa.

Oh yeah, ‘Nathan sets his books in Ottawa, like I do. However, where I might give an offhand mention of a setting, Burgoine writes very detailed depictions of recognized Ottawa landmarks, something I really enjoyed while reading about the hidden underworld of supernatural inhabitants.

What I liked best about Triad Blood were the three distinctly different main characters and how they related to each other. I must confess a particular fondness for Luc, the dashing gentleman vampire, who plays foil to Curtis’ playfulness and Anders’ uncouthness. He tries to maintain some sense of decorum and dignity in the face of the wizard’s fumbling spells and the demon’s blatant and frequent seduction of healthy young men. It really is a genius of a set-up.

The three men need each other to survive and flourish. What’s more, once a month they must taste each others’ blood, invoke some group magic, and sleep together to affirm their bond. Burgoine deals with this in such a practical way while hinting that the relationship may become something more in time.

I loved this exchange between Luc and a good looking stranger on page 91:

“I’m sorry?” Luc said, smiling.

“The pool player,” the man said with a knowing smile. “The whole room watches him whenever he comes here.”

“Oh,” Luc said, realizing what the man was implying. “Oh no. I promise you. He’s not to my taste.” I only sleep with him once a month or so, but it’s more of a contractual obligation. “Please, join me.”

I highly recommend this book and as I crack open Triad Soul, the sequel, I’m excited to find out what awaits Curtis, Luc and Anders in this next instalment.

5/5 Stars and a bonus for teaching me words like geas and chantry.

RTC Readings/Excerpts

If you weren’t able to attend my reading last night at Romancing the Capital (there were many events going on) I’ve got them here!

Reading/excerpt #1, from Beyond the Edge (Book 1 in The James Lucas Trilogy):

BeyondtheEdge_432

“So dance with me…”
He started moving and, by God if, once he forgot about everyone else, he wasn’t a natural. I knew the boy could move, he’d fucked me crazy. He just needed a way to let go and apparently my command did the trick.
We moved together to the beat of the music, rocking our hips and flirting with each other, sweating and smiling and having fun.
Then the band started to play a slow, sultry number so I took Sebastian’s wrist, spinning him around, and took his other wrist so that his arms crossed in front of him. Then I pulled him back against me, making him move with me. I swayed my hips, pressing my hard-on against his leather-clad ass and holding his hands to his sides. His head lolled back against my shoulder, his eyes closed, and he swayed with me, pushing back against my erection. Heaven. The scent of him, the feel of his body against mine, everything swirled together into a hazy fog of happiness. I felt euphoric, aroused, and so excited by this beautiful boy and the possibilities ahead of us.
“Let’s get out of here,” I said in his ear, flicking my tongue against the lobe.
He turned his head, nodding. I let go of his wrists and in a moment we were kissing, sharing our passion with each other and the entire dance floor. My fingers wove into his hair, holding him still as I kissed those perfect lips, hungrily feasting on him until I couldn’t take anymore. His hands clutched my shirt and I could feel his need, not to mention my own. We had to go… I wrenched myself away from him. Some guys smiled at the two of us knowingly but I didn’t even care as I twined my fingers with his, holding his gaze and said, breathlessly, “My place?” As soon as we stepped out of the bar and headed down the steps, Sebastian said, “We could go to my place, if you want? It’s closer.”
“Sold,” I said, grabbing his hand and lacing my fingers with his.
He squeezed my hand, hard, as we stepped onto the sidewalk. “How fast can you walk?” He sounded breathless already.
“Watch me,” I said, pulling him along. We kept stopping to grope each other as we climbed the stairs to Sebastian’s apartment. By the time we actually got the door open and moved inside, I’d gotten his jacket off and was unbuttoning his white shirt.
“Tate…” he moaned, kissing me frantically and helping me with his shirt. “Oh…fuck!…I wanna…I wanna…fuck…you…” He breathed out between kisses.
I groaned, ripping the last button from his shirt as I wrenched it off him, pushing him backward into his room. I was desperate, so horny and wild for him. I shoved him roughly down onto his bed and started to strip. He nodded, his eyes like two blue coals, staring at me from under hooded lids. He lay back, taking his pants down and off and his cock rose, thick and red, before me.
“Well, goddammit…” I murmured, tossing my shirt on the floor and pulling my own pants off. “…If you think you can do the job,” I teased him, grinning.
He laughed. “Get over here…”
And I was on him. We struggled together, naked and both achingly hard and eager. He pressed me down on the bed beneath him, covering me with his muscular body, rubbing his erection against my own.
“Oh my God…” He looked down at me, blond hair falling in front of his eyes. He shook it out of them. “I want to fuck you so hard, Tate, so fucking long and so fucking hard…”
I arched my back, pushing myself up to him. “Then do it…do it now…”

Reading/Excerpt #2, from The Loft – Book One:

TheLoft-1_432

As soon as we arrived home James took us upstairs. It had been ages since we’d been in the loft. We’d been enjoying the more informal aspect of being intimate in other spaces without the formality of the dedicated play space. But I think all three of us were glad to be here again.

“Sebastian, leave your clothes on. Tate, strip.”

Oh. So that’s how it’s gonna be.

I slowly removed my clothes while James and Sebastian watched. If we’d been in the bedroom I’d have asked them if they wanted to put on some music since I was obviously performing for their benefit, but not here. There was a certain protocol to be followed in this space where James had absolute control and a very low tolerance for flippant remarks. I’d best keep quiet and do as told.

“Sebastian, stand in the middle of the room, please, facing the cross.”

“Yes, Sir.” Sebastian, still in his church clothes—white cotton dress shirt, black pants and leather loafers—obeyed.

James approached me. “You, my friend, are going up there,” he said, nodding at the wooden beams of the St. Andrew’s Cross on the wall.

“Yes, Sir. Whatever you wish …” I said, determined to be the perfect little sub today. I’d beat Oliver at his own game.

James smiled. “Good boy.”

He positioned me facing outward, my wrists and ankles in the cuffs so that I stood spread-eagled and vulnerable. Walking over to the cabinet he said, “You know I haven’t forgotten your little outburst at the library.”

Oh shit.

He returned carrying a ball gag and a cock ring. He snapped the ring into place and stroked me quickly to an erection. “That will help keep you ready. Open your mouth.”

He placed the ball between my teeth and fastened the strap behind my head. Then he took my chin very roughly and made me look at him.

“That was quite the display of unwarranted jealousy. So today I’m gagging you and you’re going to watch me play with another man.”

Since the other man in this case was Sebastian I only felt jealous in the sense of wanting to be included in the fun. Being bound naked and helpless while they enjoyed each other would be very frustrating but I suppose I deserved it.

I murmured “Uh huh,” behind the gag as James kissed the corner of my mouth.

“Good boy.”

He backed up, admiring his handiwork, then turned to Sebastian. “Don’t move,” he said as he walked around behind him.

Sebastian stared at me with his lips open slightly but remained motionless.

James pressed himself close against Sebastian from behind and began to unbutton the blond man’s shirt, occasionally sliding a hand underneath the crisp cotton to fondle Sebastian’s bare skin. He took his damn time, every now and then glancing my way and slowly working at another button. Very, very gradually Sebastian’s shirt came undone. As James leisurely undid the second to last button I noticed smudges of red on the pale skin of Sebastian’s abdomen. My first alarmed thought was that it was blood, but it wasn’t the right color. Soon I could see that the red smudge was a letter.

What the hell had James done? Flashbacks to a particular personal debasement with a tube of red lipstick came to mind.

Oh hell.

James popped the final button and the sides of Sebastian’s white shirt fell away. They both stared at me as I read what James had written on Sebastian’s belly, just above his happy trail and the low-hanging band of his dress pants.

Property of James L. and Tate M.

I felt a jolt in my groin. I think I moaned.

James must have applied this mark of ownership in his distinctive cursive scrawl before Sebastian dressed for church this morning and while Sebastian sang in his fancy clothes and choir robes, his angelic voice reaching spiritual heights, only he and James knew of this private debasement.

My heart beat loud in my chest.

Sebastian stared at me with fire in his blue eyes and slowly smiled.
